Complementary (also known as supplementary or contrasting) colors are colors that sit opposite of each other on the color circle. The combination of such colors creates a vivid and energizing effect, especially at maximum saturation.
This green on green falls in to the same category as the monochromatic color scheme above, but it is much easier to work with (especially in the natural tones). For interior design, this combination works well next to wood. In fashion, it looks expensive, especially when worn with metallic (use rose gold for extra trendy points!). Green is also gender neutral and suits most skin tones and hair colors.
In a study called The Impact of Color in Marketing, researchers found that people can make up their mind about product choices based on colors alone in less than 90 seconds. What’s even more interesting is that the “use of colors can contribute not only to differentiating products from competitors but also to influencing moods and feelings – positively or negatively – and therefore, to attitude towards certain products.”
